Identity & Purpose, Navigating Change

Every Morning, You Get Another Chance

“I feel like I’ve done this before. I am asleep, then I’m awake, and again my feet hit the floor.”

This is how I start many of my mornings. Maybe you do too.

This is from a poem I wrote that captures what I’ve come to understand about life—every single day, we get to “begin again”.

The Gift of Morning and a New Day

When I step outside in the early morning, I notice the birds, the flowers, the trees. And I realize something profound: every living thing on this earth has also just woken up and has another chance to begin again.

Yesterday is gone. Never to be seen again.

This isn’t meant to be sad. It’s actually a gift.

A gift to awake again and breathe in another day. A fresh start. Another chance to try (even if it’s just an inch forward) to begin again.

What Beginning Again Really Looks Like

For 38 years, I helped women feel beautiful on the outside as their cosmetologist. I listened to their stories in my salon chair, held space for their heartbreaks and celebrations, witnessed their transformations—both the visible and invisible ones.

At 57, I made a choice to begin again in a completely new way. Not because I had failed. Not because my previous career wasn’t meaningful or successful, but because I realized I wanted to help women feel beautiful on the inside too.

That’s what beginning again looks like. It’s not always about leaving something broken behind. Sometimes it’s about stepping toward something new that’s calling you forward, even when it feels scary, even when you’re not sure you’re ready.

You Get More Time

Here’s what I remind myself every morning (and what I now remind the women I coach): I get more time to change and grow. I get more time to love and be loved. I get more time to enjoy the beauty before me.

I get to begin again.

And so can you.

The Bend in the Road

In my book A Journey Through Life, I talk about what I call “bends in the road”—those moments that reshape us. They show up in different seasons for different women. Maybe yours looks like an empty nest, a relationship change, a career pivot, or loss and grief. Maybe it’s that persistent question that keeps you awake: “What’s next for me?”

These bends aren’t meant to break you. They’re meant to redirect you.

But here’s the truth I wish someone had told me sooner: you don’t have to navigate them alone.

Resilience is a Choice

One of my favorite words is resilience.

It means to recover quickly from change or misfortune. To spring back. To rebound.

It’s getting back up over and over again. It’s knowing that you feel tired (maybe even buried), but you get up anyway.

Resilience is choosing to not stay stuck. It’s choosing to rise above limiting beliefs and not let circumstances define who you are or who you want to become.

And here’s what I’ve learned: the more you practice resilience, the easier it gets. It builds on itself in layers of strength and fortitude. You become someone who knows how to bend without breaking.

Questions to Sit With

As you think about your own journey, I want to ask you a few gentle questions. Not to overwhelm you, but to invite you into reflection:

What choices have you made as an adult to make your life better? What beliefs are you holding onto that no longer serve you? Can you give yourself more grace and acceptance? What would it look like to begin again in just one area of your life?

Sit with those for a moment. There’s no rush.

You Deserve Happiness, Joy, and Peace

I believe this with my whole heart: you deserve to be happy, joyful, and peaceful.

If you’re reading this and thinking, “Yes, I want that, but something is stopping me,” then I want you to know—that’s exactly where the journey begins.

Not from a place of having it all figured out. But from a place of courage and choice. From a place of saying, “I’m ready to remember who I really am.”

Your Next Chapter Starts with Clarity

This is what I do now. I walk with women through their seasons of questioning and reshaping. Through my Journey Ahead™ Method, I help you remember who you really are beneath all the roles you’ve played, release the heaviness and doubt holding you back, reawaken your purpose and what lights you up, and rise into your next chapter with clarity, confidence, and peace.

Because you don’t have to figure this out alone.

Every day, you get to begin again.

The question is: what will you choose? ✨
